Shopping on line can be easy, simple and save you lots of money. It can also take a lot of your time, frustrate you, and result in unwanted purchases. Now the same can be said for regular high street shopping, but with the vast opportunity presented by the Internet it will pay you to spend a few minutes reading this and understanding how to better optimize your Fritos shopping experience:
1. Compare - without doubt the biggest advantage that the Fritos offers shoppers today is the ability to compare thousands of Fritos at a time. This is a great thing, but not necessarily all the time! Too much can be daunting at times so take advantage of the great comparison sites and where possible let them do the hard work for you.
2. Research - if it has been said it will be on the internet. Ignorance is no longer a justifiable reason for buying the wrong thing. Take the time to research in detail everything that you could possible want to know about
3. Testimonials - don't know anybody that has bought a Fritos? Wrong! If the Fritos is good the internet will let you know. Use the Internet as a friend and get testimonials before you buy.
4. Questions - Got a question about Fritos then search the Forums, FAQ's, Blogs etc. Don't be afraid to ask .....
5. Reputation - Never heard of the company selling Fritos? Don't worry, no reason why you should know every company in the world, but you know someone that does! Use the internet to find out what people are saying about Fritos and build up a picture of their reputation for sales, returns, customer service, delivery etc.
6. Returns - still worried that even after all of the above your Fritos wont be what you want? Check out the returns policy. There is so much competition now that someone, somewhere is bound to offer the terms that you are comfortable with.
7. Feedback - happy with your Fritos then let people know, after all you are depending on others people input in your buying decision, so why not give a little back.
8. Security - check for the yellow padlock on the Fritos site before you buy, and the s after http:/ /i.e. https:// = a secure site
9. Contact - got a question about Fritos, or want to leave a comment then check out the sites contact page. Reputable companies have them and respond.
10. Payment - ready to pay for your Fritos, then use your credit card or PayPal! Be aware of companies that don't accept them, there may be genuine reasons but given the huge amount of choice you have when buying online there is no reason at all not to buy via credit card or PayPal.
For the company that produces Fritos, see Frito-Lay.Fritos® is the name of a brand of
corn chips made by Frito-Lay. Elmer Doolin was so taken with the bag of corn chips served with his lunch in
San Antonio, Texas that he paid $100 for the recipe. In 1932, he started the Frito Corporation. Original Fritos ingredients are limited to whole corn, corn oil, and salt. Even today, Fritos (original and barbecue flavor) are a vegan snack.
From 1952 until
1967, the Frito Kid was the company's official mascot. The Frito Bandito was its mascot from 1967 until about
1971, and was discontinued due to complaints about the Bandito image. He was replaced by "the Muncha Bunch," perhaps to recall the name of "The Wild Bunch," a popular film of the time. In the mid-
1970s, Fritos' mascot was a
W. C. Fields caricature,
W.C. Fritos. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Fritos used the catchy commercial jingle,
"Muncha buncha, muncha buncha, muncha buncha, muncha buncha, Fritos goes with lunch" (sung to the tune of "Aba Daba Honeymoon").
Varieties
- Original
- Barbecue
- Chili Cheese
- Flamin' Hot
- Jalapeno (new)
- Tangy Roasted Corn (new)
- Sabrositas (lime & chile)
- Scoops (Wider chips intended for dipping)
- Hoops (Go Snacks)
Additionally, a sub-brand called Twists is produced in two flavours:
Discontinued variations:
- King Size
- Fritos Racers, the Fritos material formed into a more crunchy race car shape were sold for a short while before the introduction of Twists.
- Nacho Cheese (late 1980s-early 1990s)
- Ranch (late 1980s-early 1990s)
- Cheddar Ranch Twists (late 1990s-early 2000s)
- Texas Grill, a thicker version of the original with "grill strips" on the chips. The honey barbecue flavor transitioned over to the twists.
Controversy
The Frito-Lay corporation gradually phased out consumer favorite King Size chips, designed for dipping, and replaced them with the smaller and narrower Scoops variety. Although Frito-Lay has promoted Scoops as preferred for dipping, the company's switch from King Size to Scoops was evidently made for economic reasons, as the larger chips are more difficult and expensive to manufacture and thus less profitable. The average size of a Scoops chip has also decreased over time until they are almost indistinguishable from regular Fritos and unsuitable for dipping.
Trivia
- Fritos also is a slang term for cannabis (drug).
- The oil on Fritos is very flammable, and can be used as kindling or a small torch.
- Frito pie is a traditional dish made with Fritos, chili, cheese, and onions in the Southern and Southwestern United States, particularly Texas.
- In the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds booklet, there is a photo of Dennis Wilson eating Fritos.
